Tanya22820,

I'm sorry you've had no replies. I'm sure there must have been people with Graves having IVF once their thyroid levels are stabilised. Feel free to repost your question. In the meantime you may find some helpful information in healthunlocked.com/search/g...

Yes I did, my levels were normal after partial thyroidectomy. Graves returned after my 3rd child, all 3 were ivf.

Thank you for your reply bantam12 did you have your thyroidectomy due to knowing you wanted to have ivf?

No, my surgery was done when I was a teenager, I was 31 when I started ivf.

Thanks for sharing Iv been given the option to have surgery if my remission has not been scsessful but I'm not sure about this option

Problem with Graves is you never know when it's going to kick off again. Before I had the surgery I was never in remission for more than a few weeks. After surgery I was fine for 30 years then it returned with a vengeance, I then had RAI and have been fine since.

If you are at a good ivf clinic I would take their advice.

My other option is RAI witch I'm more inclined to go with and wait the 6 months to forward again with my ivf or Iv heard of another drug called ptu witch people have used during pregnancy and graves my ivf clinic are happy to go with whatever me and my endo want he is wanting surgery or RAI and has never offered ptu

With both surgery and RAI you would have a waiting period while you stabilised on meds, and RAI doesn't always work first time plus it's not instant, it could be several months before it took effect. It's a difficult decision for you, there is no right or wrong, obviously you want to get on with the ivf but no point in rushing ahead if you aren't at your best.

I hope you can work something out and good luck 🤗

Hi All,

I too am considering IVF. I suffered a miscarriage followed by an unexplained stillbirth at 26wks last year. I became thyrotoxic earlier this year and was put on PTU. I have a thyroid nodule which was tested as benign. The Obstetrician suspects Graves (loads in my family) but they don't want to do radioactive iodine test as I just turned 45 and it's last chance saloon for me to try and conceive.

Currently I'm on 50mg of PTU but think my T4 is a bit on the low side. Most recent blood results from last month:

TSH 1.35 mU/L range (0.35-5.00 U)

Free T4 11.2 pmol/L range (9.0-21.0 U)

Thankfully I am TRAb negative but tested positive for TPO antibodies last year:

Thyroid Perox. ABs 493.9 U/ml range (<<<6.0 U)

I wonder if I should be taken off the PTU or have a low dose of thyroxine for IVF?

Any advice/ insights would be much appreciated.
