I had my vitamin D level re-tested recently and the results were 86 (70-200). The Dr said this is now normal and I should reduce the supplement to a maintenance dose. Is this correct? Any advice would be appreciated.

Vitamin D Results
Tristy The recommended level, according to the Vit D Council, is 100-150nmol/L. Depending on what dose you've been taking, lowering may be necessary, maybe not. And if he's suggesting 800iu as a maintenance dose that isn't enough. Please tell us what you are currently taking.
Hi SeasideSusie, I was taking 1000iu up to 2 weeks ago when I increased it to 5000iu. The blood test was done just before I increased it. (Just received results by letter).
Tristy You could drop the 5000iu down a bit, maybe take 4 or 5 days a week rather than 7 if that's the only dose supplement you have. Once you reach the recommended level then you'll need a maintenance dose. That varies with the individual, you may find that 1000iu daily keeps you at the recommneded level, you may need more in winter than summer. My maintenance dose is 2000iu daily. It's all trial and error and you can test privately with a fingerprick blood spot test if your GP wont retest vitamindtest.org.uk/
In case you're not aware, there are important cofactors needed when taking D3
vitamindcouncil.org/about-v...
D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems.
D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day, D3 four hours away from thyroid meds.
Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds
