I've been reading up on natural anxiety remedies and came across Ashwagandha, which looks like it would work.
It says though, not to take if you have Thyroid problems. Does anyone know if it will be a problem if you effectively don't have a thyroid? Mine is completely dead, has been for over 20 years. (RAI twice). Will it interact with my NDT?
Thank you 😊

I'm 62, have hashis and been taking NDT (Erfa) since October 2016.
I'm also taking Ashwagandha (from True Veda which I believe to be a good brand). I've been taking it for several months now. During the time I was using the first pot I'd bought, I really wasn't sure it was doing anything as I didn't 'feel' anything different. I ran out. Left it a little while. Then I went to see a functional medicine doctor in London last month and he recommended taking it.
It's a kind of a 'silent treatment' it's supposed to balance your adrenal glands, hence it's called an 'adaptogen' as it should either help to reduce or increase cortisol levels depending on which your body needs.
Anyway, I bought another pot and have continued to take it.
Hello I myself started taking Ashwagandha once a day-before dinner back in late July. By August 1 I could tell a difference significantly with the physical symptoms I experienced during situations that cause me anxiety. I have suffered from panic/anxiety disorder since I was a teenager. I am now 46 years old. I have not heard that you were not supposed to take it if you have hypothyroidism. I am hypothyroid and trying to find out whether or not I have Hashimoto's. testing next week for antibodies.
I am taking organic Himalaya brand that I got from a store called Sprouts here in the US.
I haven't been able to have my adrenal function tested yet but it makes sense to me that I would have adrenal fatigue as a result from all the panic anxiety attacks I have had (basically daily) since I was a teenager.
Sorry for rambling I am suffering from severe brain fog still, and trying to get things sorted. Been told that I am probably a poor converter for thyroid hormone replacement.
My consensus is that Ashwagandha is helping me a lot with the fight or flight and adrenaline rush experience from anxiety attacks.
This in turn has cut back on my overall amount of anxiety attacks, however I still get them-but I am able to get them under control more easily now.
Thanks a lot for your reply Jill. The replies I'm receiving have helped me decide to give it a try. I really don't want to go the prescribed pill root. I just sometimes let my anxiety get the better of me. I'm going to give this a try and see if it helps. Good luck with your thyroid testing x
