Can someone please tell me if hypothyroidism is considered as a chronic condition? My surgery doesn't recognize this as one! Yet most of us require a lifetime of treatment (thyroxine) 😥. Just plain curiosity really.

If you mean hypothyroidism of the autoimmune (Hashimoto's) type, then yes I would count that as a chronic condition ....because it is a lifelong condition once you "get it" and the permanent damage and destruction of the thyroid gland.
Interesting question! My surgery doesn't recognise it as a chronic condition either. Strangely, their website only recognises as chronic those conditions which attract specific NHS payments.
MaggieMay72,
A chronic condition is a human health condition or disease that is persistent or otherwise long-lasting in its effects or a disease that comes with time. The term chronic is often applied when the course of the disease lasts for more than three months.

Logic aside of course, because it's pointless arguing logically with Drs on matters of the thyroid lol, on the basis that "myxoedema (that is, hypothyroidism which needs thyroid hormone replacement)" is listed as a condition which gives us exemption from paying for prescriptions; I'd say by inference, it's a chronic condition.
