I am currently taking carbimazole 15mg a day for 4 weeks now. And I have been suffering from hives for almost a week now. It's very itchy, I have rashes everywhere, and it looks terrible. I went to A & E on the day I noticed the rash, the doctor prescribed me with prednisolone 25mg daily for 6 days and cortival cream for the itch. I am now on the fifth day of prednisolone. It helped a bit as well as the cream, but I'm still itching, and I still have the rashes, but it's no longer that bad.

Goldgurl,
You might try a bit longer to see whether the rash and itching resolve. If not, ask your GP or endocrinologist to switch you to Propylthiouracil (PTU) which is the second choice anti-thyroid drug.
Hi Goldgurl. I'm surprised the doctor didn't recommend anti-histamine. That worked for me. I took one a day until the rash disappeared. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was only a week or two, so yours may disappear soon anyway.
This is a very common reaction to Carbimazole.
I too have been diagnosed with Graves. I suffered with itching and if I scratched myself I would have unsightly wealds. I took anti histamines and found 1 a day really helped. I am now taking 10mg of carbimazole, I was on 40mg a day to start. I had to stop taking mine for 7 days when I got tonsilltis. Having recently been seen by a Haematologist I can not stress how important it is to attend the doctors or A&E if you have a sore throat or fever and get your white blood cell count checked .
