Hi
My son who is 22, has just had his last blood test results back. TSH 6.5 (high), TPO 180 (to be expected) according to surgery! He was given a trial of levothyroxine at 5mcg and whilst on this his TSH was 3.5. He was taken off levo 6 wks ago and had been on it for about 18 months. The endo and doc agreed with each other of course, saying it wasnt working. Of course it wouldnt work - they didnt titrate the dose and just left him on 50mcg. The endo said raising it would make no difference and she is the clinical lead, God help us! I have Hashimotos too and TPO confirms he has it too, but they wont treat until he gets over 10, by which time his thyroid will be no more! I am at a loss!
Anyone know of a good thyroid specialist in Devon, not endocrinologist as they deal with diabetes. They say his symptoms relate to something else, i.e., being special needs and no job. Im so fed-up that no one will listen to me. This has been going on since 2011 when his TSH was 7.11!
Also wondered if there was any genetic testing that could be done for this.
Advice welcome.
Thanks
Jane😎
