Hoped the private GP would be the answer..

So I booked to see a private Gp today thinking that it was the answer on that they would know about the issues with t3 levels and poor conversion and that I would get a decent intelligent conversation and ultimately a private prescription for t3 on a trial basis. GP didn't know about thyroid, didn't know about t3 and would not prescribe what I was wanting. Said she did not know anyone that would as guidance says 'don't touch it' on the basis of the fact that levels can fluctuate so there is a danger in over medicating by accident. I argued the case she did say she would ask around to see if she could advise of anyone that would prescribe but she would not. I feel so completely deflated and upset - I thought I was taking the issue on and sorting it out only to get nothing more than I would get from an NHS gp.

I don't want to have to buy the med from some far flung questionable source but seems there may be little alternative. I am so frustrated by being made to feel that I need to do something underhand and ify just to get medicine that I need. So upset. Any thoughts......?

Sorry to hear you didn't get anywhere with your appointment. Was it a random private GP you saw or a private GP from the list which Thyroid UK has? Both Thyroid UK and TPA-UK have lists of doctors who have been known to prescribe NDT and T3 medication.

Hi thanks for response. It was a local private gp but the clinic that they work for does t3 testing so I assumed that they would have some clue about how to interpret the results. Is the list on the websites of the organisations that you mention or do you have to request?

Thanks again

Qapl,

Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org for a list of member recommended endos and private practitioners. As I said, check with the doctor's offices whether or not they prescribe T3 before you confirm.

Qapl,

There's nothing underhand or iffy about buying T3 if doctors will not prescribe it.

It's been drummed into GPs that Levothyroxine is the preferred therapy for hypothyroidism and prescribing of T3 should be recommended by an endocrinologist. Next time check with the GP or endo that they will prescribe T3 before you confirm a booking.

Hi, yes in hindsight I should have done this. The only place that I can find t3 without prescription is via an online pharmacy in oceana which has very questionable security measures and reviews. I guess that makes it feel ify - if I could find somewhere that was more legit I would take that route.....

thanks tho

Do a new post asking for pms for source of t3 though if you give some history etc in your profile people are more likely to help :)
