Had sepsis three weeks ago - thought getting better but totally crashed - temperature low around 35.7 and blood pressure 90/70 - could my thyroid have been affected?

With sepsis you have suffered what is known as a nonthyroidal illness. It was acute rather than chronic - that is, it only happened for a shortish time and not longterm. Your thyroid output is affected by a disease like sepsis while the disease lasts - it is partially shut down as per bodily T4-T3 conversion to try to slow your metabolism down to give the body a chance to recover. On remission, recovery of thyroid depends on how you have recovered from sepsis. This is a severe life threatening disease and it takes time to get completely well again. However your thyroid will eventually take up where it left off in health.

Thank you - is just a question of just waiting for your body to repair and being patient or can you take more meds?

I think to begin with take time to see how you get along. If after another say month review the situation and if no improvement think about a little more medication if you are on T4 - but only a little!

Going to take another month?! I heard that vitamin D can be beneficial?

Will do no harm but don't overdose for the sake of your bones.

If you had a course of antibiotics some of your good gut bacteria will have been killed off. It would be useful to take probiotics to replenish these. Go for capsules/pills from the chemist which are much, much stronger than anything added to yoghurts and such like.

If you had severe sepsis,(also called red flag sepsis) it can take the body 3-6 months to get back to baseline and for endocrine and renal function to reach normal and for sepsis which didn't require organ support 6-12 weeks. So be kind to your body and try not to be impatient.
