Free T3 level.

Hi

Having been on NDT for 18 months I have finally decided to go back to levo. or levo. and T3 combination.

I have not felt that much improvement on NDT and run into problems when I try increase it, I think initially because my T3 was at a good level at 5.2 range 3.8 - 6.0 but T4 below range.

After what I thought was a virus or possible a hashi's attack (my antibodies had risen to just under top of the range) my T3 level dropped to 3.50. Three weeks later T3 had climbed to 4.4. After this I added in quarter of a grain so now taking 1.75 grains NDT.

I have been taking this for 2 months and my T3 level is now 4.65.

I do not really want to just swop from NDT straight to levo. so thought I would add in some levo. initially then reduce NDT as I add in more levo.

Taking my T3 level into consideration do you think 25 mcg. levo. would be a suitable dose to add to the 1.75 grains or would this be too much.

Thank you.

Lucylocks,

When taking NDT FT4 is usually lower than when taking Levothyroxine and some times below range. It really doesn't matter as long as FT3 is good.

You can switch straight back to Levothyroxine. 1.75 grains is equivalent to 113.75mcg Levothyroxine.

If you want to titrate you can reduce 1/2 grain NDT for 32.5mcg Levothyroxine.

Thank you Clutter,

taking my recent level of FT3 at 4.65, do you think it would be O.K. to add some T4 to my 1.75 grains NDT. to start off with as I still have hypo. symptoms, if so would 25mcg. be a suitable dose.

If I did this how long would I need to leave before adding in more levo. and reducing the NDT.

Lucylocks,

Yes, you could try 25mcg but do check levels in 6-8 weeks to make sure FT3 remains within range. I would wait 6 weeks inbetween dose adjustments.
