B12 Lab test

Please could somebody recommend a good laboratory to test for low B12 levels.

My GP blood tests usually come back mid range but as I have so many symptoms of b12 deficiency I am considering having my own test done to see if I am not getting enough of the vitamin at the cellular level.

Thank you

So it would be good if you could have both Homocysteine and MMA checked. If HIGH in range then it could indicate LOW B12 at a cellular level - where it is needed 😊

Would the GP do those tests or would I have to have them done privately?

Thank you

Depends where you live in the UK - again I do not know which areas do it and which do not. You would have to ask and do some research. I live in Crete so am out of touch !

I shall give you links to our two recommended labs. Both do these tests. Some would have blood drawn in an appropriate place and other tests are home ones.

Blue Horizon and Medichecks are popular home tests but some may have to be done elsewhere.

Ive looked at these websites shaws but there are several blood tests related to B12 deficiency.

I don't know which one would be suitable for me. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

see comments by Marz above - MMA and homocysteine, serum/active B12 are the tests for B12 deficiency. IFA is test for PA as a specific cause of B12 deficiency.

Check with lab if you are supplementing as that will affect results - particulary in relation to IFA test.
