Early stages of pregnancy
I would discuss with your doctor when and how often you need blood tests but perhaps do your own research too? I think you'll find national recommendations on the BTA website.
Lou182jaye,
It's usual to increase Levothyroxine dose by 25mcg - 50mcg when pregnancy is confirmed. When were your TSH and FT4 last tested and what were the results and ranges?
Lou,
Congratulations ! ! ...
Many GP's do not realise the importance of enough thyroid hormone in the first trimester. You are your baby's only source of thyroid hormones as your baby's thyroid gland isn't fully functional until after 12 weeks of pregnancy. If you don't have sufficient thyroid hormones, you are at an increased risk of miscarriage, and your baby is at increased risk of developmental problems.
Ask your doctor for a referral to an endo. NICE states TSH should be kept in low-normal range (0.4–2.0 mU/L) and an FT4 concentration in the upper reference range. TSH & T4 levels should be monitored every four weeks and your Levo dose titrated during the first trimester, and then again at 16 & 28 weeks of gestation.

I presume the pack contains pregnancy general info which you should read and make notes to discuss with doctor or midwife anything you are not clear about. If it doesn't mention anything g about thyroid mums then make another appointment and ask the doctor. I had my children before I had a problem but I've read other posts where mums have been given a midwife with experience of thyroid patients but get advice as soon as you can as I understand increased medication needs to be started soon.
