I have a under active thyroid, have been tested for vitiman D it came back as 17nmol/L, was put on high doses of vitamin D which increased it to 93nmol/L but no mention of a maintenance dose, not sure what to do next, would appreciate any help from the very well informed people on this site. Thanks

Elwins - you have to buy your own supplement now. The recommended level is 100-150nmol/L according to the Vit D Council.

Many people find that a maintenance dose of 1000-2000iu daily keeps them at the level achieved but it's trial and error so it's recommended to retest once or twice a year to keep within the recommended range. This can be done with a home fingerprick blood spot test from City Assays and costs £28 vitamindtest.org.uk/index.html

Have you been taking D3's important cofactors vitamindcouncil.org/about-v...

If so, and you only need to purchase D3 then softgels are good as they contain some of the necessary fat, in the form of olive oil, that's necessary for absorption. Look at Doctor's Best D3.

There are also D3/K2-MK7 combo supplements in various strengths and come in various forms like sprays, drops and gelcaps.

Much appreciated the information you have provided, quite happy to buy my own vitamin D, you always give out such good advice, thanks for your help.

SeasideSusie always has great advice - and I know she has mentioned adding Magnesium as well with D3 and K2... so more good reading:

In your post of three months ago - you mentioned that 6 weeks after starting your loading doses of VitD you would be re-tested. Did that happen ? :-) It would help to suggest a maintenance dose if you have the result ....

Thanks all for your help, yes I was retested and it came out at 93 nmol/L, but Doctor did not say anything about a maintenance dose, as I said happy to buy my own vitiman D and will arrange my own retesting before the winter to make sure I keep my levels up. Thanks again
