Just saw my primary.

The basic: Worked up to 2 grains of Thiroyd over the past 4 months. Saw my new primary to review labs.

TSH: 0.05 miUL/L

Free T4: 1.2 ng/dL(0.8-1.8)

Doctor won't run free T3 or TPO. He says I'm hyperthyroid. I responded that I don't have ANY symptoms that reflect that. I'm depressed, appetite is poor, poor libido and having difficulty losing weight. Also, my cholesterol is 237 mg/dL(125-200), LDL is elevated and triglycerides also elevated. I pointed out to him that elevated cholesterol can correlate with hypothyroidism or central hypothyroidism. He didn't agree, doesn't subscribe to ndt and wants to prescribe levothyroxine. New doctor!

Tropicaldaze,

Don't let him switch you back to Levothyroxine if you feel better on Thiroyd. As long as your FT3 is within range TSH 0.05 does not mean you are hyperthyroid or over medicated but your physician won't know what your FT3 is unless he orders the test. Can you order your own labs to check?

He won't order it, Clutter. I can self-order tests, which I will do; a full thyroid panel, including rt3. Pricey, but I will not tolerate doctors who tell me that I don't know what I certainly DO know. Private insurance in the US can be just as difficult as the NHS, though when I lived in Maryland, never had any problem getting the tests I requested. In Florida, doctors seem to see the world through a different lens.

Don't see how you can be hyper with an in-range free T4.

As I wrote, I don't have any symptoms that correlate with being hyperthyroid. This doctor is someone who looks at the labs but didn't ask my how I'm feeling. And I told him that what I'm experiencing is consistent with being hypo.

I'll be ordering tests next week. This was my first time meeting with this doctor and I'm already looking for a new primary.

Your labs don't show hyper either, so doctor isn't reading them correctly.

I agree. It's good that I have many other primary physicians from which to choose. I wouldn't want to be stuck with this guy, lol.
