I have been on thyroid meds for many years. My thyroid hasn't functioned all this time. Now I'm on 0.050 . Doctor changed me from 0.88 because my legs are aching and blood pressure is spiking .all my blood work is normal except for thyroid. Does hypothyroidism cause my symptoms.

Achey legs and spiking blood pressure
Impossible to say, without seeing your blood work - but there's a distinct possibility. Why not post your results here, with the ranges? It does sound like a very low dose, you're taking.
Sorry, when you say that you are on 0.050, does that mean that your TSH is 0.05, or that you take 50 mcg of T4 daily? As Greygoose pointed out, it's easier to comment if you post your lab results with reference ranges. However, high blood pressure is usually a sign of hypothyroidism, not HYPERthyroidism, so it's strange your doctor lowered your dose from 88 mcg to 50 mcg (if that is indeed what he did)...
50 mcg of T4 is a very low dose, as is 88 mcg, so I doubt it would be enough for anyone with full-blown hypothyroidism. Another reason I don't understand why your doctor lowered your dose.
Yes. I think you need a Full Thyroid Function Test - TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and antibodies. Plus and GP should do most but the Frees the lab may not and you'd have to get your own from a private lab. Also ask for B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate. Test should be the very earliest possible, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a 24 hour gap between last dose of hormones and tests.
'Normal' with regard to blood work is meaningless unless you feel well with no symptoms. Normal means within the test range and could be at top instead of bottom. We need 'optimal' which means we feel good with relief of all symptoms.
Post your results with ranges on a new post.
junebug,
try to get a copy of your blood test results and copy all the results with the ranges in brackets. ( ), in a new post. if you didn't get a print out from the doctor or the receptionist, ask for one, as the can not deny it! What the doctor recons is fine and in the right ranges might not suet your thyroid! and your health. x
Oh the achey legs and my blood pressure is up following a lapse in treatment. They are symptoms but if you get hold of you blood tests people will be able to advise how to get rid of them.
