Can someone tell me how long does it take for NDT to leave the system?

Does it have a half life like Levo?

Thank you.

Mischa,

The T4 in NDT has the same half life as the T4 in Levothyroxine. It halves every 7-8 days. If you are switching from NDT to T3/T4 you don't need to clear the NDT first.

I asked because I'm having a severe reaction to NDT and I have tried 3 different types. It Iis still in my system and I'm sweating profusely coming off of it. It has been less than a week.

Thanks for responding.

Did you make the switch? How did it go? I'm switching tomorrow from NDT and Tirosint to Levoxyl and T3. Feeling nervous. Hate switching but I think the Tirosint is giving me headaches.

I made a straight switch - was feeling hot and over medicated for a couple of days but fine now.

Anything to do with changing meds takes time and patience. Lots of it.

Not everyone and Iin particular those of us with hashis does well on NDT.

Good luck.

Hi mischa,

do you mind me asking what dose of NDT were you on and what dose of T4 and T3 have you switched over to.

I take NDT but feel the T4/T3 ratio in it does not suit me, and have been thinking for quite a while to switch over.

Thank you.

Hi Lucylocks

I was taking 2 & 1/2 grains of NDT and am now taking 75mcg of T4 and 20mcg of T3 but feel I will need to up either the T4 or T3.

I'm erring on the side of caution right now and will probably wait a few more weeks for a blood test. If I get hypo before then I will raise the Levo a little.

There seems to be a period of adjustjng, for me there is, even though the switch is almost like for like. It could be to do with that one is 'natural' and the other synthetiic or it might be that other things are going on with me. Time will tell. I have learnt over the years to be patient - wasn't always my strongest point.

Many thanks mischa,

I agree there can be a period of adjusting, it was the same when I changed from levo. to NDT.

In hindsight I wish I had added T3 to my levo. instead of going straight to NDT.

I have about a months supply of NDT so I am thinking of changing over to T4/T3 combo then.

I hope you find you improve on your combination, keep us informed.

Good luck.

Thank you. The good thing about the combo, it is easier to adjust the ratio.

Ihope it works well for you - it's all trial and error at the end of the day.

Will keep you posted.

I was on NDT only last year and was very fatigued. I added T4 and felt like I got part of my life back. So I was on Tirosint 25 and 1 1/2 grains. Going above 1 1:2 grains bothered my heart. But today is my first day on Levoxyl and on Monday I will add some T3. My doc felt that the NDT could be affecting my antibodies. It's scary for me switching. But I'm pretty sure that the Tirosint is making me prone to migraines. Keeping my fingers crossed. Please keep in touch.

I was terrified when I first tried NDT and hoped that it would work - so disappointed that itdidn't. I developed severe pain jn my throat and night sweats. I couldn't tolerate it so had no choice but to switch to the combo.

The good thing is thatwe have a choice. If one thing ddoesn't work, try somethjng else.

You will get there - just takes time.

You don't know how you will react to something until you try it.

I hope you do well on the combo. Let us know how you get on. Good luck.
