Making the switch

Hi everyone. I've been feeling particularly bad lately; difficulty breathing, slight chest pain, low mood, no energy. I'm thinking of changing to NDT and would like to know if anyone has done this whilst being on a relatively substantial dose of T3/T4 already? I currently take 125mcg Levothyroxine and 35mcg Liothyronine daily. Although sometimes I swap the generic NHS Liothyronine for Turkish Tyromel. I don't get the hot flushes and hunger surges from the Tyromel that I experience with the NHS Liothyronine.

I also take Levocetirizine (antihistamine) and Mercilon (oral contraceptive). I am 50 years old.

Gerispice,

Mercury Pharma Liothyronine doesn't suit everyone so you might be better sticking with the Tiromel T3 and Levothyroxine.

If you want to try NDT 3.5 grains (225mg) is equivalent to your current dose.

Thank you. How does one get hold of NDT? Do I need a prescription from my GP or Endocrinologist? Can it be bought online?

Gerispice,

You need a prescription for NDT in the UK. It isn't licensed for UK use so you are unlikely to get it prescribed on the NHS. Most members using NDT have private prescriptions or buy online and self medicated.

It might be an idea to check you are optimally dosed on your current medication before switching. If you post your recent TSH, FT4 and FT3 results and ranges I can advise.

Can you post your latest lab results ? Fillers in some thyroid meds and dyes can cause symptoms . Nutrients are very important to incorporate into our daily lives . Selenium , Vit"D" B-12 with folate , Iron (need to run labs first with iron panel/ferritin ) Vit."C", magnesium ,calcium . Iron and calcium need to be dosed at least four hours apart from thyroid meds . I don't know if your aware that splitting your T3 is very important too .

Best wishes for your progress .
