Hi. I've just received my first lot of thyroid S.
However, I'm not sure what dose to take. I'm on 125mcg of Levo. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Moot point!
The usual advice is start low, build slowly.
I tried that several times, but every time I struggled with side effects.
Then I found a thread on here saying many people believe you should start on a higher dose.
I followed that advice & started on 2 grains. I'm only 9 days in, but so far feeling great. Definitely feel a bit of energy creeping back, but the main thing is Sleep. Never slept better!
Hi I start on thyroid s in June 2016. I was on 125mcg of Levo. I stopped the levo and started with half a grain, then waited 10 days and increased to 1 grain and so on until I felt better. I am now on 2.5 grains. I have no thyroid am 5ft 8 inches tall and weigh 135lbs.
It's a bit hit and miss but hopefully you will feel the difference just be patient and keep going.
I think that weight and height must come into the equation also men and women and their different needs.
Hi thanks. When you say half a grain, do you been cutting one in half?
Print1972 I use a pill cutter or my teeth. it is such small amounts it quickly balances out . There was a scientific paper where they tested this for Levo and concluded the variation was so little it was insignificant . Sometimes my teeth are more accurate than the pill cutter
😬😂🤣😂😬
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
I bought one and it's arrived. Looks a bit lethal!
I think you'd need a fair few bottles and even then it probably wouldn't kill you. Carol Carpenter took huge amounts of it (I think it was Levo & she was not even hypo!) and it still took quite some time to kill her - did for her ticker. I am sure I saw on the box she was taking 100x the normal dose...seems impossible...certainly 10x I hope you find a gentle introduction to them as life transforming as I have done 😉
There have been many attempts to calculate doses based on height, weight, and other factors. Yes - there is a general tendency for heavier people to need higher doses. Trouble is, differences in absorption tend to be very significant.
In economics there is a phrase ...
Ceteris paribus or caeteris paribus is a Latin phrase meaning "other things equal". English translations of the phrase include "all other things being equal" or "other things held constant" or "all else unchanged". A prediction or a statement about a causal, empirical, or logical relation between two states of affairs is ceteris paribus if it is acknowledged that the prediction, although usually accurate in expected conditions, can fail or the relation can be abolished by intervening factors.
In biology, as in economics, there is no way of holding everything else equal.
Sorry but I was never any good at Latin it was 55 years ago.
Yes you are right there are many other factors to consider I am new at this.
I was only wondering, now I know, it's very hit and miss I agree.
Ages ago, I created a spreadsheet that works on factors such as weight and height. It uses some of the formulas you can find published on the internet from supposedly good sources.
I think there are only two uses for such calculations:
If someone is about to have a thyroidectomy and you want to estimate an initial full replacement dose;
If you want to have an idea whether the dose someone is on is unusually high or low. If it is, it could be sensible to consider whether there are any special factors, or if the person is simply under- or over-dosed. Though it does NOT mean the dose is wrong.

I realize my idea was a very stupid one now after reading your chart. Thank you it was very interesting. Surely though someone, someway could come up with a formula.
There were not enough variables, perhaps not possible.
Hi, yes I cut mine with a pill cutter OK?
I slowly swapped 25mcg less Levo and 1/4 grain thyroid S as per thyroid patient advocacy guidelines I had to split the dose at 1/2 grain onwards and it got better and better.
Here's the guide:

Some people just do a straight swap but the T3 would have been too much for me in one wallop!
Hope transition is as good and smooth as mine was 🍀☘️🍀
Oh I found 1.25 grainsok but after 2 years had to up it to 2 then 2.25 but back on 2 again. I was on 120/125 Levo (3/4) days per week so close to your dose the guidelines explain how to reach your right NDT dose. 2-3 grains was the dose most people took when NDT was the only treatment.
Thanks. I've just read the link. I am getting slightly dizzy and a little spaced out. The article has explained why. I've probably gone a bit gung-ho on the Thyroid S!
Thanks everyone. Would you recommend taking one grain in the morning, then another one early afternoon. I've read that done people do this, but sure why.
I'm just about to order some Thyroid-S and try myself. My NHS Endo wouldn't prescribe but suggested that should I decide to try it that I take 1 grain in morning and half a grain in afternoon. I am on 100mcg Levo at moment. Best to start low and go higher if need be. Good luck.
Best to start on half a grain in the morning and half in the early afternoon. The T3 in the tablets is a bit of a shock to our system, as levothyroxine is T4 only. It takes a little while to get used to it. You may feel a little tired and hazy. Don't worry, that's normal. Thyroid S didn't agree with me, but Thiroyd does. Good luck.
