Brilliant. Just read the transcript. Thank you John and Lorraine for your campaigning and advocacy. Hopefully someone will start listening soon.
Thank you both. Very articulate transcript.
Thank you, Diogenes - really helpful!
Thank you!!!!!
I have my fingers and toes crossed. Surely someone has to listen soon???
I just had an appointment with a gastroenterologist last week, and his main interest was in telling me - repeatedly - that I take too much thyroid hormone. Not only is it none of his business, but he's wrong!!!
I long to get the right treatment, through the NHS, and to have no more doctors trying to bully me into dropping my dose of T4 so that I become far less well than I am now.
Let's hope there are some sensible people in Scotland who start listening to, and reading, the evidence.
Had read this too. All credit to Lorraine and John and all involved along the way.
Thank you so much John Midgley and Lorraine Cleaver for all your efforts on
behalf of proper treatment for people with thyroid problems.
Thank you!
Just joined here after my annual review with the rheumatology consultant last week threw up some unusual questions and can't quite believe what I am reading on here and that there has been a meeting about thyroid matters in the Scottish parliament as recently as last week.
I am a 46 year old male and had a total thyoidectomy in 1998 and have been on 225mcg Levothyroxine ever since increasing to 250mcg around 18 months ago as a result of my TSH level moving above the higher desired level.
9 years ago I was diagnosed with Polymyositis and have been on steroids for this ever since. I have constant muscle pain over both hips which around a year ago also moved round to effect my lower back. My legs constantly have a dull ache.
It was a new consultant I saw last week who now 9 years after diagnosis of polymyositis is doubting this is what I have and may do some tests which weren't carried out at diagnosis. After finding and reading many posts on Thyroid UK I am now wondering if the high dose of Levothyroxine is the cause of my constants muscle pain/weaknesses.
I am in Scotland so keen to see how this progresses with Parliament.
With such a high dosage of T4 still giving elevated TSH, I'd suspect you either have difficulties in taking in the T4 though your intestine or more likely some degree of failure to convert T4 to T3 or otherwise T3 resistance (where your cells don't take it up well). A FT3 test is essential to distinguish the different possibilities.
Thank you for your efforts - I hope that it makes a difference.
