Iceni_,

Have a look at the links in healthunlocked.com/thyroidu... If you find any which meet your criteria write a post asking members to send you private messages where you can source it without prescription.

Hi, thanks, I'm posting as I've read through these links already and there doesn't seem to be any ndt available without a prescription that is lactose free, TR is no longer available and WP Thyroid lists lactose in the insert inside the bottle, all the others have Lactose except armour which seems only to be available with a prescription. So if anyone can pm me with a source for armour without a prescription that would be great, thanks

That was waffly, sorry. I have been through every product listed on sttm and the only 2 ndt non-prescription items are the Thai products 'thiroyd' and 'thiroyd-s' and both contain lactose :(

I am not convinced that Armour Thyroid is 100% lactose-free.

RLC (manufacturers of WP Thyroid) state, on their own site, about Thyroid USP:

Thyroid USP* (desiccated porcine thyroid)

*Lactose Monohydrate (Lactose is not added to our formula but it is already present in Thyroid USP raw material as a diluent per USP (United States Pharmacopeia). Lactose is not contraindicated for individuals with allergies to dairy, as lactose is a milk sugar (vs. dairy allergies, which are caused by proteins in milk). It is, however, contraindicated for individuals with lactose intolerance. We have had many physicians reporting no side effects while using Nature-Throid with lactose intolerant patients. The amount is very small – less than 5 mg. per 1 Grain vs. 12,000 – 15,000 mg. in a typical 8 fl. oz. glass of milk.)

Armour state that their ingredients include Thyroid USP.

There is one manufacturer of Thyroid USP in the USA.

It is possible that the precise product purchased to make Armour uses a different sugar as the diluent when making Thyroid USP. I have my doubts. My suspicion is that RLC have seen fit to be clear and open, where Armour have decided to say nothing. That is my interpretation and suspicion but I do not recall anything that proves it wrong.
