Test results and Antibodies high?

Hi, was hoping for some advice on my test results below.

I am prescibed 125mcg of thyroxine but have actually been taking 100mcg of levo and 1 tablet of Thyroid-s which I believe is equal to 60mcg of levo. I started to take the Thyroid-s as was hoping it would help increase my T3 and make me feel better.

The test showed that my antibodies are high - would this have been caused by taking too much medication and is there something that I should be doing to bring it down?

Any help on dosage and high antibodies would be much appreciated.

Tia

Topaz, your antibodies are high confirming autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's. This is where antibodies attack the thyroid and gradually destroy it. It's nothing to do with taking too much medication.

To help reduce antibodies, many members have found a strict gluten free diet helps. Gluten contains gliadin which is a protein thought to trigger antibody attacks. Read about the gluten/thyroid connection here

I can't see the results very well, they're very feint on my tablet, but it looks like your FT4 is very slightly over range and FT3 in the upper quarter. Maybe you'd feel better tweaking your meds. You might feel better on just NDT.

Thanks SeasideSusie

Yes, FT4 is slightly over. I've considered just taking half of the Thyroid-S and also scrapping the Levo altogether and taking 2 Thyroid-S but the only problem with that is they're not always easy to get hold of so I'd be worried about running out once I'd finally managed to get to an optimal level!

I don't want to end up going too far the other way either as that's when my hair falls out with a vengeance!

Do you think taking half a tablet of Thyroid-S one day and then a full one the following day along with the Levo would bring my levels back within the normal range?

I don't know. When I tried NDT many years ago it didn't suit me so I can't really advise. The only thing I can say is that by alternating the dose like that you wouldn't be getting the same amount of T3 every day so I'm not sure it would work very well.

I don't know where you source Thyroid-S but I understand there are a couple of reliable Thai suppliers and you ought be able to get feedback from other members who use Thyroid-S.

Have you tried a Levo/synthetic T3 combo? That is what I do and it allows greater flexibility with dosing than NDT.

I've not tried the combo - I didn't know that there was one if I'm honest! Is it something that's easy to get hold of as my doctors refuse to supply anything other than Levo!?! 😕

Not a single combo tablet, synthetic T3 taken alongside Levo which gives the flexibility of tweaking both Levo and T3 to doses that suit you :)

That sounds good - would you mind telling me what the medication is and where i would be able to get it from?

T3 is liothyronine, usually just referred to as T3. Unfortunately non-prescription T3 has to be sourced from overseas and it is proving quite difficult to get at the moment. My supplier is the one who has supply problems and many members are paying for it and waiting months, worrying if they are going to get a delivery.

You could ask on the forum for details of suppliers from members, replies will have to be by private message.
