Hi Gizz,

I should think you ought to be feeling a little better now T4 has risen and TSH dropped but your TSH is still too high so I wouldn't expect you to feel well yet. 8 days ago your dose was increased to 75mcg. It will take 7-10 days for the increased dose to be absorbed before it starts working and up to six weeks to feel the full impact of the dose. Symptoms may lag behind good biochemistry by several months.

The goal of Levothyroxine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status. For most patients that will be when TSH is 1.0 or lower with FT4 in the upper range. FT4 needs to be in the upper range in order that sufficient T3 is converted. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

For maximum absorption Levothyroxine should be taken with water 1 hour before, or 2 hours after, food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D supplements, magnesium and oestrogen.

You should have a follow up thyroid test 6-8 weeks after increasing Levothyroxine to 75mcg. Arrange an early morning and fasting (water only) blood draw when TSH is highest, and take Levothyroxine after your blood draw.

Gizz,

Perhaps you could see another doctor?

No, is the answer. The aim is a TSH of 1 or lower with FT4 and FT3 towards the upper part of the range. These Frees are rarely tested and I'll give you a link for the reason they should be.

You don't have to avoid gluten if you don't have thyroid antibodies. If you've not had them checked as for these at the next blood test. medication at night.
