Any hope trying herbal remedies
Are you sure you're on the right dose? Your symptoms are those of someone who is under medicated. It is common for doctors to under medicate hypo patients. Is your TSH at 1 or under? And how about your FT3 and FT4? Are they high in the range?
Many people don't do well on just levothyroxine alone (me included) and require the addition of T3.
I wouldn't spend too much time hoping on herbal remedies. Instead I would make sure your dose is optimal. And correcting any vitamin deficiencies you might have (common in hypos). Have you had your B12, vit D, folate and ferritin tested? These often need improvement.
I have just had blood test results a few days ago and the doctors say I'm on the right level of levothyroxine 100mg just feel so tired just thought a herbal remedies might be an idea for some energy.
If you can get your recent test results from your doctor and make a new post on this forum the members here can help you. The most common thing we hear is "doctors say I'm on the right dose", in our experience this is barely ever true. One doctor may keep you within the TSH range but ignore your FT4 and FT3 results all together. Your symptoms are of someone who is under medicated. I'm sorry I can't help with herbal remedies.
The aim of a treated hypo patient generally is for TSH to be 1 or below or wherever it is needed for FT4 and FT3 to be in the upper part of their respective reference ranges, if that is where you feel well. If you still have symptoms then you are not optimally medicated.
Ask your surgery for a print out of your results, you are legally entitled to them under the Data Protection Act. Post them on the forum and members will comment.
Dan has mentioned vitamins and minerals. All these need to be optimal, not just 'in range' but at optimal levels for thyroid hormone to work properly. Low levels of ferritin can cause fatigue so that's something that might be contributing to how you feel. So ask your GP to test for those that Dan had listed.
There are some general supplements that are helpful for us hypos
Vit C - helps support adrenals and the immune system
B Complex - helps support adrenals
Selenium - helps with conversion of T4 to T3 (T4 is a pro-hormone and is inactive, it has to be converted to T3 which is the active hormone which every cell in our bodies need
Co-enzyme Q10
Mineral Complex that doesn't contain iron (shouldn't be supplemented unless deficient, plus it stops everything else working), iodine or calcium (both of these shouldn't be supplemented unless deficient also)
Thank you so much for your advice I will call the doctors see if I can have a copy of my results and check the other levels too
I'm on 100mg but I also suffer with Gilbert's syndrome which has the same symptoms I'm calling the doctors today to get a copy of blood test results and get a second opinion this tiredness is horrible as I'm a sporty person can't do half the things I like to as I have no energy. Thanks for your reply.
