Thyroid UK

Remedies

So I'm awaiting my referal to and endo and hopefully the start of my journey of getting myself right after 8 years of being made to feel like a crazy person. It's my understanding now that I'm not m the medication and not even having the right blood work done when my thyroid function is tested. In the meanwhile for those who know how horrendous day to day life can be... Any recommendations for anything to help fight the fatigue and constant ill feeling? Anything at all??

Thank you

In the 8 years i have only ever had my tsh levels done. I pushed and pushed and still not having the right checks done in my blood. Also hell to get my results printed off... my doctors don't seem to want to do it. I know it's underlying issues that need to be sorted but I'm after something to carry me through until my appointment comes through

Can you have the FULL testing done through Thyroid UK - as linked to you by SlowDragon below - did you read it ? No guarantee an Endo will have all the answers - it would be far better to have all the tests that have been suggested to you with Medichecks or Blue Horizon. You can then ask here on the Forum for opinions and support. I have been on this forum for over 6 years and it seems that Endos are held back by Guidelines and do not seem to know anymore that members here - sadly.

the TSH on its own tells you very little - it is a Pituitary hormone and that is why you need the FT4 and FT3 along with thyroid anti-bodies for the full story.

You may not have a Free T3 results as it is rarely done on the NHS but you should have a TSH one and possibly a Free T4.

Your first post shows your TSH in October was over 6

No wonder you feel ill

Your GP should have redone full Thyroid test and vitamins immediately in October

You need to get full testing done

For full evaluation you ideally need TSH, FT4, FT3, TT4, TPO and TG antibodies, plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested

See if you can get full thyroid and vitamin testing from GP. Unlikely to get FT3

Private tests are available

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results

Link about thyroid blood tests

Print this list of symptoms off, tick all that apply and take to GP

thyroiduk.org/tuk/about_the...

See Box 1. Towards end of article

Some possible causes of persistent symptoms in euthyroid patients on L-T4

You will see low vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 listed

Saz you are going to need to either change doctors or read up so much that you educate your doctor

Just using TSH is a total nonsense its t4 and t3 that matter

Print off the validated research just published by Dr Midgeley ...its on thyroiduk website or on tpauk.com and give that to your GP and tell them they are behind the times

You are legally entitled to know your exact results so dont be fobbed odd

I may make an appointment with one of my older gps who have been around for many years. Last I seen was a new one and didn't have a bloody clue. To be fair I have done massive amounts of research but asoon as u go in armed with knowledge they turn off and stop listening to you 😔 xx

Tell them you are so fed up with being gobbed off you had no option but to check NHS CHOICES website and the advice you got is you need the other tests done .....take the 2 articles from toft and midgeley and say they might not have had chance to see these 2 latest experts reports
