Aching legs
You need a new test as they are clinical symptoms. An increase in thyroid hormones might be due.
Agree you should get tested to check your levels. However as additional tip, I get muscle cramps and pain. The muscle cramps would wake me up in the night. I now take 350mg magnesium for this (and constipation) and now get very little cramping. Hope this helps.
Thank you I will try this, are you on levothyroxine?
would you be kind enough to tell me which magnesium you take? I have tried several and none ease cramps and muscle pain
I've taken two. Solgar Magnesium Citrate and currently Vitamaze Magnesium Citrate.
Hi, some time ago I bought some Magnesium Oil after reading about it on this forum.
It's an absolute miracle worker for cramps and fidgety legs. A few drops rubbed in works in minutes. I find it incredible, the only problem I had was that it took the colour out of my new pale turquoise sheet just where my knee had touched. (It had given me jip and I possibly used too much).
Try soaking your feet in Epsom salts dissolved in warm water. A ten minute soak before bed helps me and is a very good way for your body to absorb Magnesium. Also do you have any test results for B12? If not ask for a test. Low B12 is often a problem for us thyroidies.
When I had low B12 I suffered badly from aching or restless legs and also got cramps.
As soon as I had my thyroid removed I was started on Levo I had never been on it before. I had never had any problems with aches or pains in my life. Within a few months my legs and feet were hurting and I couldn't even get up from the floor. I join this site and changed myself to NDT. The aches and pains are all gone now. By the way I had very low Vit D before the thyroid issues and still have fairly low levels now although I am supplementing.
Having suffered from chronic, daily aching leg muscles and knee joints for years, I recently went 100% gluten free and starting supplementing with D3 (1000iu) , a good B complex (Solgar) and magnesium (400mg) amongst other, possibly less relevant, supplements. I was amazed that within three days the symptoms had pretty much gone. I no longer dread the aches starting as soon as I get out of bed and slowly getting worse all day. My mood is also better- I'm calmer and less irritable. I can walk up stairs without my legs burning by the top of the flight and can squat without searing pain. I'm now tackling the other symptoms of my recent Hashis diagnosis but am so grateful that the aching legs have pretty much disappeared. Good luck.
Hi Lisa, this is me, hypo as well. I ache when walking downstairs in the morning too.
I am getting my T3 tested (privately, kit ordered online) and due for a routine T4 test this wee. I am on 175g of Levothyroxine.
Do you get swollen ankles?
No just aching and sometimes cramps and i can't sit down for a little while. The constant fatigue and aching is what is getting me down the most. Work is suffering and I have a busy wk next wk and don't know how I will cope.
I suffer the same too and i have swillen ankles with oedema in my lower legs. I was on water tablets for 5 months but they did nothing. So weened off of them. When ww have hypo we do store more fluid apparently. As we increase on levo or t3 etc it wont get any better. Thats what i was told???? Xxx
I could have hacked my legs off with an axe, the pain was unbearable. My mum used to have to pummel them for hours.
When I raised my medication it went. Maybe you could do with a new blood test? Might need an increase?
Are you taking enough thyroid hormone replacement? I ached everywhere, & was diagnosed with FM. If my aches return I know I need to increase my dosage.
Otherwise, you might find chelated magnesium at bedtime might help.
I had same thing could hardly walk after work. I take vitamin d and 350 magnesium citrate by pure encausulsations. Buy on Amazon. It has helped me so far. Hope you get relief. I know exactly how you feel.
