Hi Mummytina,

I know just what you mean, had mine for 7 years now and they drive me crazy. Haven't had Levo improve them, and I'm now on 200mcg. Are your calf muscles really tight? One of my friends on this site said NDT made a lot of improvement to her leg pain. X

This probably won't go away until your thyroid hormone levels are correct. Please go back to your GP and discuss an increase in your thyroid medication. The sooner you do this, the sooner you stand a chance of feeling better :)

Hi Make sure you have had your vit D checked ( a hormone ) as it can be that. Also , more unusually high calcium or low sodium. See if it is thyroid or D first as that is the most likely.

Until a long-term solution can be found, try rubbing Voltarol gel over the area where it aches, that's what I have been doing,

My husband has Psoriatic Arthropathy and he uses it rather than take even more tablets. It does help at any time but particularly if you struggle to find a comfortable position in bed. It's just a short-term relief while you get to the cause.

I hate to say this but I'm still looking for answers on this one for nearly 20 years! Pain in my legs, tight calf muscles, no amount of physio seems to help, so if anyone out there knows more about this side effect I would be extremely pleased to hear from you !!

I'm sorry I can't be the one to offer solutions but at least I can empathise !

I have just purchassed a "vibro plate" and realy felt it was helping....now to be told by GP that I should not be using it at my age....so waisted £250, and legs & hips hurting again.

I thought I was doing the right thing...costly mistake.

Did you ask why the doctor told you that? Did he give you any reason? I have looked on the Internet and found that they are being put into care homes as it is a very good exercise for those who can't do a great deal more.

I'd certainly get more opinions on the subject other than a doctor. They know %*& all about thyroid so why should they be expert on exercise machines?

Perhaps you have a condition that I know nothing about...but if that condition is simply "age" then I would not give up so easily.

I don't think your money was wasted...in fact having studied them I feel I might get one myself!

in reply toSam75

Vibro plates can make you tingle & itch, def shouldn't be used when pregnant, but there may be other reasons why you can't use one. My daughter has used the stand up plate (doesn't like it 'tho) I've only tried the foot one with red light, can the settings be altered to be less strong maybe?

My muscle aches, heavy leg feeling and joint pain significantly better after supplementing with Vit D3. Avoided parkinson's drugs for 'restless legs' etc. & no need for carpal and cubital tunnel surgery - so far! J x

I am heading for 70 and use a vibro plate to strengthen my bones and muscles [I have Cushings]which is what it is designed to do and It seems to be working well. What reason did your doc give you to stop using it ???? Ging.

Hi, I too find that a Vibro plate helps my back, sciatica and legs. I pay monthly to use one. :(

I've been supplementing with L Glutamine. and have found it has helped with leg muscle pain. It reduces the build up of lactic acid.

Took it some years ago for gut problems and recently my husband was advised to take it after he had heart surgery to help with the wound healing. There was half a jar left so thought I'd try it again, and its definately helped somewhat. I managed to do the christmas shopping , although the last shop I probably over did it.

My muscle pain was aggravated by taking thyroxine, so on a break at the moment.

I've been taking a large teaspoon in water just before bed, but think I might double that and take the same dose at breakfast time too, to see if I can improve further.

I know exactly what you mean it is so frustrating as to what to do, one thing I don't really understand is why now, I have had an underactive thyroid for nearly 18 years and the aches and pains started just over 2 years ago with my hands and arms starting first then my legs, feet and hips starting nearly a year ago. Have good days and bad days but there's not a day that goes past without some aching and some nights so bad I find it hard to sleep.

Maybe 2013 will be better.

Good luck

My aching legs improved significantly after I started to use a cross-trainer (elliptical trainer) a few times each week. I hope you find something that helps - my leg aches were driving me crazy and keeping me awake. Good luck

Hi, it may be worth looking into conditions related to the lymphatic system such as lymphoedema and lipoedema. I found out about this via a post on this forum and found I am suffering from lipoedema although, thankfully, without too much discomfort. For some reason doctors miss this condition!

Hi thanks for replying but since I posted this question I have found out that I have osteoarthritis in both my feet my hands my spine and my right knee and also have fibromyalgia xx

bgill161 profile image

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 3 yrs ago, 65yrold lady, searched the web, tried all sorts and finally found that going completely dairy free really helps, I have a feeling it has something to do with too much calcium and weak thyroid..be warned , even the smallest amount of dairy will give you a horrendous flare up. Hope this helps,

After many years of suffering with a deep ache and pain in my legs I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia, talk to your doctor about this at your next visit. Good Luck.

Circulation can be a major problem or it can be originating from your back. Mine is aching pretty bad right now and believe it to be circulation. My RA doctor said something about low vitamin D. I thought D3 was good but guess D is what I need. Just went to eat dill pickle because it helps muscle cramps so hoped it helps my leg pain.
