xjjx,
If you are on a high dose and TSH keeps rising there should be investigation why you are not absorbing Levothyroxine. Coeliac disease (gluten-intolerance) is a fairly common cause of malabsorption. If that is ruled out you may need referral to gastroenterology for malabsorption investigation and to endocrinology for investigation into resistance to thyroid hormone or investigation into TSHoma which is a benign hormone secreting adenoma.
I am now on 200mcg .. Was tested for Coeliac last year and came back negative ..
Gp has said to retest bloods in 3 months ..
I had an increase in FEB, from 150 to 175 and my TSH increased in those 8 weeks ..
Well, it could just be that your condition is getting worse, as antibodies destroy more and more of your thyroid.
Or, it could be that you just aren't converting that T4 to T3. Have you had your Frees tested?
only t4 . never had T3 tested ..i will look up my latest free t4
Well, an FT4 on its own won't tell you if you're converting. You need both of them. But, it might indicate an absorption problem. How's your stomach acid?
Serum free T4 level13.7 pmol/L9 - 23pmol/L..
I do have pernicious anemia also ,so there are issues with the lining of stomach.
OK, so, that's what wants looking at - although, pernicious anemia is autoimmune, so not sure if that counts as an absorption problem. How's your ferritin?
22 .with a range of 20 to 300.. gp will not treat as in range, so will have to self medicate
Yes, you do! That is terrible! Stupid GPs. So, there probably is an absorption problem, then. Have you done anything about raising your stomach acid?
It could be something simple so please check just in case. If you look on the Thyroid Uk site there is a lot of useful info as to how best to take your meds and what to do if taking other things as well. My apologies if you already know this but felt I had to ask.
Yes, they will! I have had my dose increased from 25mg to 150mg in 10 years. I have some suggestions that I wish I had known years ago. Get a good probiotic to keep your body purging the toxins. Now using super 50pro and feeling much better, take thyroxine at night and go gluten free. I just buy the pasta, frozen pizza, Schar crisp bread to replace bread and use pinterest for good recipes.
Hi JAMuir, what difference have you found taking levothyroxine at night makes?. Also, how/where did you find out about this?. With thanks
J-Lou_78,
Quite a few people have found taking it at night works better for them, although some don't. Many people find out about this from here on the forum. We have a poll about what time of day people take their thyroid meds, you might find the comments interesting. Click the link below.
Hi, could have been real life with thyroid disease by very well or Isabella Wentz, they both send emails out with information. Also, I did see an endo. recently. I take it at night because I cannot wait to eat so I probably wasn't getting the full benefit. My joint pains have gone away and I have more energy, not perfect but better.
Please note that however good they taste, the Schar products replace wheat with maize so they are not gluten-free.
Wheat has 69% alpha gliadins, maize has 55% zenins, millet has 40% panicine and oatmeal has 20-30% avenine - all are forms of gluten.
See the discussion on Gluten-Free Society and their list here: glutenfreesociety.org/guide...
Sorry to discourage you.
There is also a suggestion that when you take it at night then sleep it helps it to. E absorbed better
