Razzar1978,

Ferritin is stored iron and levels fluctuate throughout the day as the body draws on the store when required and dumps it back into store when not. Low ferritin can indicate iron anaemia which is confirmed by your iron results and which is why you are having an iron infusion.

Hashimoto's can cause inflammation which can raise ferritin. Ferritin 50 isn't high though and you are anaemic.

Ty hun just scared me last month it was 44 i think the reason my t3 is not optimal celluar level like b4 because my iron is so drastically low. Prob is nhs wouldnt give me infusion i have to pay for this the consultatnt said you should never wait until hg or iron gets that low b4 actually offering a infusion ive done tablets since may cant get levels up my gut just wont have it. My irons that low my lips are purple bluey but have read if anemia been left that long that can happen . The chest pain in my heart is worrying me. I know the ferritin isnt a true pic as my hair still falling . Anyways ty i got another echo 2morrow on heart .

Razzar1978,

Your hair is falling because iron is low and ferritin 50 is also low because iron is low. Most advice is that ferritin needs to be >70 to avoid hair loss. The infusion will raise iron and ferritin levels and your hairloss should improve in a few weeks and your low oxygen and chest pain sooner probably.
