Have you been tested for Sjogrens Syndrome? Very similar symptom. Until we realise it is due to thick mucous as part of SS, it can be very alarming! Good luck investigating cause.
Hi Could be hiatus hernia, I had your symptoms and did nothing until I couldn't tolerate it any longer. Then diagnosed with hiatus hernia.
hello elvera, ok.. what i think your problem could be is acid reflux and being woken from sleep and the choking feeling is called laryngospasm i have it did you have a feeling like you could not get breath in and coughing...? this is the acid flowing up to the vocal chord and then this closes to prevent the acid from getting into your lungs ..scary as hell ..
This sounds awful, have you spoken to a doctor about it?
I believe that this is also a symptom of Myasthenia-gravis. Can also beaccompanied by respiratory problems, muscle weakness and drooping eyes.
Hi elvera111 - my husband has had the same symptoms for years and they affect him in the same way. He has been diagnosed with Reflux ..the "liquid" causes him to have a choking sensation....then he has to cough to clear it. His has improved since trying to make sure he does not eat red meat or anything fatty for his evening meal.
I used to get that quite a lot in the months before I was diagnosed hypo. After starting meds it stopped. I think that you need thyroid meds.
