Liothyronine (T3) withdrawn from NHS

Hi

As the title suggests Liothyronine (T3) has now been withdrawn by the NHS or certainly has in Lincolnshire. My GP has had a telling off for prescribing it and he is no longer allowed to prescribe on the NHS.

He is aware I will now look to do it myself and is happy and willing to support me as he totally disagrees with the decision having seen the proof it works. I was the only on in his surgery on it and he has learnt a lot.

So my question is, where can I go and buy it. My GP is happy to write a private prescription if the supplier needs it.

Thanks

Paul

I'm so sorry it's been taken away Paul. That's totally unfair seeing as you were obviously doing so well on it. Did they give a reason? Perhaps cost? I don't know anything about sourcing it yourself I'm afraid.

The reason is the NHS is stopping it as it apparently has no clinical value and is of no benefit to patients.

Looking around online at the moment and it looks a minefield of websites that can supply it.

That's so frustrating. I take T3 too and am dreading the day this happens to me. I have a feeling it will be soon.

Ferryenthusiast,

BTA has issued a statement about this. Perhaps you could challenge the decision which I though was still under review and not actually implemented yet.

My doctor has just given me my T3 back again after 4 months trying various different dosages of T4 which didn't work for me. The way I understood it is that she has to justify that I have tried to do without it but really need it. I do hope it's not going to be a short term thing and taken away again.

I though they said on the bbc live program with Adrian Chiles that it was not going to be a blanket ban?
