This is a really interesting article by AmyMyers MD on the microbiome and autoummunity but also has some fascinating info on how our gut health effects babies as they are born and what happens at birth. I particularly found fascinating that research shows that babies born by C-section are more likely to have allergies and altered gut microbiomes. A recent study that involved ‘swabbing’ the newborn with mom’s microbiome from the birth canal immediately after birth shows that the babies microbiomes are as diverse and healthy as those who were born vaginally.
There is also a lot of interesting information about the whole microbiome and health relationship issue in the fascinating book I am now reading ' GAPS The Gut and Psychology Syndrome' by dr Natasha Campbell-McBride.
