I have no idea! lol I Don't see why not. But use the link from the Mercola site, rather than TUK, I should think. Anybody know otherwise?

Very interesting stuff - especially the 'dos' and 'don'ts' - wash dishes by hand because that way you don't get really of all the bugs - get your hands dirty. That fits in with the thinking that we are becoming 'too clean'.

Yes, I absolutely agree. I often think that kids today Don't stand a chance of growing into healthy old people because of that. Still, my grandkids can always come round to my place and play in the mud, and get licked by the dog! lol

Goosey, I 'discovered' the BBC program (on YouTube) 'Trust Me, I'm a Doctor'. (hey, I ran out of Doc Martin... someone even put the movies up. Yay... ) The episode from earlier this month had something on about Saccharine vs Stevia. Two small groups of people were issued maximum 'doses' of each. There were several people in the Saccharine group who experienced elevated blood glucose (not in the Stevia group). They had some gut microbiome guy interviewed who said that the bacteria in the gut were affected by the Saccharine and probably that is why blood glucose went up. No change in the gut bugs of the Stevia group. They alluded that probably Aspartame has the same sort of effect as the Saccharine.

Maybe stuff like this also affects the microbiome and then the health, adversely.

Nothing would surprise me! I wouldn't touch the stuff with a barge pole.

I have watched some of the programmes including the Stevia versus saccharine and the "not eating for 15 hours" Found it all very interesting.

I have taken part in the gut project (send a stool sample to Kings College) to determine your gut biome. Did it last year and after 6 months got the results back which were very interesting as 18% of my gut biome is quite unusual i.e. not seen in most others gut biome!! I was diagnosed intolerant to wheat, chicken and eggs 17 years ago and since getting Hashi's 2 years ago have been gluten and lacto free which reduced TPO almost to zero. There is still a lot to learn about how our gut biomes affect us.

When i have time I shall be researching my biome groups on the internet to see what else I can learn about effects on health.

I do agree that most children live in too sanitised a world now!

Great article!

Has anyone used any of these 'starters' for fermented veg? I feel a bit worried about anything that comes out of a packet going into home fermented!

I read a really interesting article (might have been from trust me, I'm a doctor) about how the gut microbiome affects your ability to lose weight. It was based on some research being carried out in Israel. Fascinating.
