Nicoleandrea,

I too believe there may be a connection between the RH negative blood antigen and certain autoimmune diseases. There is certainly plenty available on the net ...

There are four basic blood types: O, A, B and AB and our types come from both parents, determined through blood test. Type O is recessive ....... so to have this type both parents must have type O and it can be either dominant or recessive in the parent’s blood type.

The blood type that shows in the standard blood test will show the dominant type only. To determine your recessive type you must include types from both parents if their types are different.

The RH factor is also determined through a standard blood test and indicates the presence (RH+) or absence (RH-) of an antigen that is also present in Rhesus monkeys.

RH- is only found in humans.

Parent A Parent B Child

RH+ RH+ RH+

RH+ RH- RH+ (with recessive RH- or RH+/-)

RH- RH- RH-

I am O Rhesus Negative and had terrible pregnancies but normal births and healthy babies. I have Hashimotos that was not diagnosed until in my late 40's and Haemochromotosis (iron overload) .... basically real crap genes and blood type .... but am managing to function well on NDT ..... and the rest ! ! ! ...

I don't get what you said about both parents must have type o to have a child with one ???. I am o neg. My Mum was O neg but my Dad is AB pos. My husband is A pos and we have one child o neg and one child A pos. My Mum being o neg had no auto immune problems but I have so I don't think it is connected.

The ABO blood grouping genes are like this:

If you are O then your genes are only OO

If you are A then your genes can be AA or AO

If you are B then your genes can be BB or BO

If you are AB then your genes are only AB

O is recessive, while A and B are equally dominant.

So if some one who is O has a child with an A and the child is O then the parent genes must be OO and AO. In other words the child's genes are OO. They have inherited the recessive O gene from both parents.

The second child can be A as they would inherit the recessive O gene from one parent and the dominant A gene from the other parent.

In a case where someone says they are O with a parent who says they are O and a parent who claims they are AB, then either:

1. one parent has their blood group wrong, or,

2. the child has their blood group wrong, or,

3. the AB parent isn't their biological parent.

When it comes to blood and varies genes, whether they are genetic defects or not, it is normal for people to get things wrong or even lie about them. I have met people who claim to be AB who aren't simply because being AB is rare.

The groupings are to do with antigens in your red blood cells and no-one knows why they exist. They have found those with O tend to be better at fighting of malaria, there as those who are B tend to better fighting cholera. So around rivers and water courses most people are B.

I am O neg but not auto immune

I am O negative and have auto immune conditions. Genes come in pairs recessive genes need two to express the trait, dominant genes need only one to express.

Hi, I just saw this, and worry that you didn't get much clarity from replies. The US National Institutes of Health acknowledge that Rh negative type patients have higher incidence of certain diseases, and worse health overall! It is fact.

Reducing your reactivity to the world is key - meaning certain foods, beverages, chemicals, etc. will rip you a new one more than others! In my 30 years of direct patient care, what works is for you to get and stay aware of what is best for you. There is NOTHING TO BUY! Do not buy into anyone selling anything! Your type is fixed, you can only manage exposure, and food, etc.. The only thing to buy is a notepad - virtual or paper - to write stuff down.

Good luck!
