Hello,
I'm a 27 year old male who's been suffering with quite a few symptoms over the past eighteen months. It started off with a really bad pain in my upper right abdomen and a change in bowel habbits. I went to the doctors and was referred to a specialist. They initially considered chrons disease but after a colonoscopy and a few other checks diagnosed me with ibs. The ibs coincided with what I assume is anxiety and depression but have never discussed this with a doctor as I come from one of those families who don't 'believe' in mental health.
More recently, over the last six months, I have been suffering with fatigue, light headedness, sleeping in excess of twelve hours and still feeling tired, palpitations, ear ringing and itchiness and on two occasions I have fainted (not sure this is what actually happened as I was in bed but my body went stiff and my head felt tight and then I woke up two minutes later sweating.)
Not sure whether the ibs and then the new symptoms are related but they both persist.
I am asthmatic and smoke so naturally I use my blue inhaler a lot and I also drink coffee so I'd guess that plays it's part in some of the symptoms.
I went to the doctors a few days ago and I had one of those heart tests where they plug a bunch of wires to you, that seemed fine and I had a blood test, not a hundred percent what they were checking for but I am pretty confident I heard the words thyroid function test. I got a call the other day asking me to come back in next week to have another blood test.
I have just allowed the hypochondriac in me to self diagnose on the internet and a lot of articles about living with thyroid problems ring true with me.
Is it likely with my symptoms that it is a thyroid problem and does anyone have any advice on getting it diagnosed/treated efficiently for someone who is very poor at dealing with doctors.
Thanks
