Gary19610 Why bother 'testing for gluten'? You have Hashimoto's so a gluten free diet can possibly help reduce the antibodies (many members have found it helps enormously).

If you're thinking to test for coeliac or gluten sensitivity, that's irrelevant where Hashi's is concerned. The fact that gluten contains gliadin, and gliadin is a protein that is thought to trigger antibody attacks, is the reason to go gluten free. There's no need to waste money on a test.

Supplementing with Selenium L-selenomethionine 200mcg daily, plus keeping TSH suppressed, also help reduce antibodies.

As explained, it's not the fact that gluten intolerance or gluten sensitivity is a problem where Hashi's is concerned, it's the gliadin that causes the problem by triggering antibody attacks.

You can have the most reliable 'gluten test' and be negative for coeliac and any intolerance/sensitivity, and still the gliadin will trigger antibody attacks.

As you have started to feel better, I think that's your proof anyway. But it needs to be 100% gluten free rather than almost gluten free.

Is it OK to get fresh meat and fish from like asda and morrison

SeasideSusie profile image
SeasideSusieRemembering in reply toGary19610

Just make sure there is no coating of any kind on the meat or fish.

If you buy anything that comes in any sort of packaging then read the label very carefully, it could say something like "contains gluten" in bold.

Auto immune thyroid disease and coeliac often go hand in hand. A blood test for TTG antibodies will confirm coeliac disease and often a biopsy will be advised but is uneccessary really. I have both Hashis and Coeliac and the hashis became very stable once I adopted a gf diet.
