Paracetamol and Levothyroxine

I had a knee replacement 8 weeks ago and although I am recovering well, I still need to take painkillers and will for some time apparently. I no longer need to take strong painkillers (Morphine etc.) but am on 2 paracetamol 4 times a day. I have to take my last dose at 10 (ish) when I go to bed as, even with those I wake at around 4 am in some discomfort. However, that means I am having to take them with my Levo - and have been for 8 weeks - is this a problem? I haven't noticed any difference to my health generally so assume there is no interaction but just wanted to clarify?

If you have had no adverse reaction then it is fine.

Thanks - it's not so much an adverse reaction, I just wondered whether it would reduce the effectiveness of the Levo? We are told not to take Levo with food/coffee etc. so wanted to check.

Normally I would suggest taking levo just by itself but you will not be permanently on paracetamol and as you have being doing so for 8 weeks without a problem I think it will be fine. Sometimes we have to just go with the flow and accept that it may not be ideal but it is okay.

Thanks - I guess it was a moot point anyway as I couldn't really stop taking the pain killers but wondered if I should distance the levo. As you say, seems to have no effect as far as I can tell so I will carry on.

Well, you could take your levo at 4 am when the pain wakes you up.

Ooooh, what a good idea, never even thought of that.

It does flippin hurt, doesn't it. Everyone is different, I belong to a couple of 'groups' for people who have had this op - here and abroad - and some people manage with no or very little pain relief after a month, some are still on morphine after 3 months - at least I stopped taking that day 10 as I hated it.
