Hi all,

Got my BH results today and would appreciate some advice of supplements if needed.

Been having carpal tunnel like symptoms upon waking and low on energy.

Thanks very much.

TimD250172,

Odd results. TSH 3.0 indicates you are under medicated but FT4 20.66 indicates you are adequately medicated. Your GP could raise dose to bring down TSH which will push FT4 over range but that's okay as long as FT3 remains within range which it should do as it isn't high in range now.

Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your GP.

Thyroid peroxidase antibodies are negative but thyroglobulin antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

VitD is optimal around 100. I would supplement 5,000iu D3 for 6-8 weeks and then reduce to 5,000iu alternate days and retest in May. Take vitamin D 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

CRP is an inflammation marker so very low CRP is good.

Ferritin is optimal.

B12 <500 is sub optimal. I would supplement 1,000mcg methylcobalamin with a B Complex vitamin to boost folate.

Thanks very much for the input Clutter, I am also a bit confused as to whether I should be upping my dose looking at the Ft4 results

To be honest at the moment I don't feel too bad just lacking in motivation! Ha ha

I doubt my gp will do anything as she is also hypo but is doing fine on her dose so thinks I'm Making stuff up about Vit deficiency.

Thanks again.

Its not just LOW B12 that can be linked with a shrinking brain and alzheimers but also VitD. Maybe show her the article which was research done at Exeter University .....

The great great Dr Gordon Skinner always checked for swelling on my inner forearms as swelling from being undermedicated can press of the nerves mimicking carpel tunnel symptoms!
