So I saw my Endo this morning. She is sooooo full on its like you get shoved into a washing Machine and then chucked out at the end! She is also lovely, said I was still very ill and she's not surprised I feel like such a wreck. As predicted she has 'upped' me to 150 of Levo and said she thinks I will settle on 200mg. I have already booked my appointment to see her in 7 weeks time. She wrote a little letter also for my DR explaining what I have etc. She was not remotely interested in my Iron deficiency or the numbers for my B12. She did however give me another massive hug when I left and wiped my tears off my face!
After I saw her I went straight to the pharmacy to get my Levo and the girl that served me happened to be fluent in English (Much to my relief!!) Anyway, I spoke to her at length re my iron - she said I can 'double drop' the Tardyferon 80mg tablets, she also sold me some other iron tablets which I can take 4 of in one hit and they are combined with Copper - she said that's good for absorption..........I've not taken them yet - Do you think the Coopper is a good thing? She also said her Manager has a great understanding of Levo and iron and she took my number saying she or her manager would call me to get me the right solution to get my iron up.
On the way home I passed a butcher so I just had chicken livers for lunch. Ate them with my vegetarian husband watching
I have another question for you all - sorry - A while ago I bought, selenium 200MCG and Zinc 15mg. I dont know why I bought them.........Should I be taking them and if so when?
My B12 arrived today so I gobbled that up too!
I am hoping above hope I feel a little better in a week to celebrate my daughters second birthday.
Thank you so so much for helping me. Its a real roller coaster isn't it!?

That's great news, Mara, I'm so happy for you. She does sound like a lovely lady - you're so lucky to have found her straight away - I just hope she's set your mind at rest.
I'm in two minds about the copper. Hypos very often have high copper, but low zinc - the two need to be balanced. So, I really think your doctor ought to test your copper before you take it. I don't know if it increases absorption of iron, but I do know you don't want excess copper.
Taking the zinc and selenium would be a very good idea. BUT, as you've just started on the B12, leave about two weeks before starting on anything else. In the unlikely event of something disagreeing with you, you need to know what it is. And that's easier if you start your supplements one at a time.
OK cool. Thank you. I do feel better mentally. The combination of you, this group and my Endo me thinks!
I'm going to just go with the double dose of Tardyferon for now. I will wait until I next see my DR and then ask about Copper and change then if needs be.
Will start the other two in a couple of weeks. Do I take them together at lunchtime too with all my B stuff?
Is there anything else you think would be a good idea for me to take? Whilst I'm on this train I might as well be full loaded 😃 If supplements make me feel better 'bring it on' I say!
Well, let's just say I think you can take them at lunch time... But, I'm not really sure. It's difficult to find that sort of information. But, I would suggest that you keep your wits about you. If you feel hypo symptoms coming back, widen the gap.
For example, I thought I could take magnesium 4 hours away from my T3. Although, I had read that you should leave six hours, but I tried four hours. My skin started going back to scales! And that's always the first sign for me, that's I'm not optimally dosed on thyroid. I moved the magnesium to six hours away, and my skin has gone back to being smooth.
And, that's another thing you could try, eventually - magnesium.
There is an enzyme in the body called ceruloplasmin which carries copper around in the blood. In some way that I haven't investigated or researched (and don't understand) it has something to do with iron metabolism.
Ceruloplasmin exhibits a copper-dependent oxidase activity, which is associated with possible oxidation of Fe2+ (ferrous iron) into Fe3+ (ferric iron), therefore assisting in its transport in the plasma in association with transferrin, which can carry iron only in the ferric state.
It may be this connection that makes your pharmacy claim that combined iron and copper supplements are a good idea. I have no idea at all whether they are right or wrong.
The selenium helps conversion of T4 to T3 so a good idea for all of us Hypos, and a bonus for a Hashi's patient as it is supposed to help reduce antibodies.
B vitamins are best taken in the morning and lunchtime, no later than 5pm as they are stimulators to the adrenal glands. You don't want that towards the end of the day, you won't sleep.
