Hi, it's the new year and im feeling unhealthy I'm just wondering can I exercise with hyperthyroidism or should I see my doctor first?

Exercise hyperthyroidism
Well I have Graves and I kept going to my gym (I used to go onmedical referral day because that was how I started going there) and Pilates throughout my treatment..
I did very little at the gym really, I cut back on everything and only really went for the company and to prove that Graves wasn't going to ruin every aspect of my life, same with Pilates but my Pilates teacher is a qualified physiotherapist so I was in very good hands.
I used to do a lot of long distance walking and I found I just wasn't able to keep doing that because I just didn't have the energy for it and probably took about two years before I felt the urge to go for a long walk.
I don't know what sort of exercise you have in mind but I wouldn't do anything strenuous, I wouldn't force myself either if I were you.
I never ever spoke to my doctors about exercising, I just did what I felt like doing when I felt like doing it and it was only really to get myself out of the house, not because I felt it would make me fit or anything like that. I probably spent more time talking to my gym friends than anything else and the machines I used were all turned right down to the minimum.
Eventually one day I realised I was actually wanted to and was able to go for longer walks.
So whatever exercise you do I wouldn't go mad, ask your doctor if you can have a medical referral to your local gym and everything there will be you will be with other people who are there for health reasons and it will be geared to suit your needs and you will be well supervised.
I'd ask your doctor, only because each case is unique. I've always worked out with hyper, even at high levels, now mind you I was fit when I got it. But my endo said the only thing she'd advise against was a marathon/iron man
