I don't have an answer to your question, since I have been thinking the same thing... But, ever since the diagnosis I stopped eating maca, just to be sure. Since I believe it is goitrogenic.
Although I used the gelatinized maca... but still. Hopefully someone else has fool proof info on maca.
Maca is indeed goitrogenic, but you would have to ingest a lot of it for it to cause a goitre. And it might never have any effect on you at all - not all goitrogens affect everyone. And, if you're on a full replacement dose of thyroid hormone replacement, or are missing your thyroid gland, it won't have any effect on you at all.
But, whether or not it does any good, is anyone's guess. It seems to help some people, and not others. I took it for a while, but it did nothing for me. Don't forget that if you are hypo, your energy comes from low levels of thyroid hormone, not low levels of maca.
Thanks Greygoose you are right but will do a bit more research before I do anything just thought it wouldn't do any harm to ask the question as most of us have tried various things to make us feel better
Thanks hachiko am going to do a bit more research on it will let you know what I find out
Hi foxyeyes glad you are looking into it first - I don't use anything as yet - told I'm hyperthyroid and nodules too had a scan on Wednesday radiologist advised me to call surgery later today which I did and results are there but doc hasn't looked st them or made comments so will have to wait until Tuesday 😬 Hope your research helps you find some relief. Take care and happy new year 🎉🎈🔔
