I've been doing some searching and found that you can buy pure Liothyronine powder. . Has anyone tried the powder ?
Liothyronine powder : I've been doing some... - Thyroid UK
Liothyronine powder
Is this not for injection? Why would you want powder? Liothyroine tablets are very well absorbed and could be crushed if you have problems with tablets. Some of the other ingredients could be very unpalatable, assuming you are not injecting it (this would be a very bad idea without medical supervision). In the UK the cost is more than double the price of UK liothyronine tablets, are you a millionaire ;-).
Not yet a millionaire but sending that though to the universe. My fabulous GP has banned my T3 I'm desperate for supplies . I'm fed up of it costing me money I cannot afford as I don't have the one tablet . I'm on a high dose i believed I would be saving . £££££
Despite the BTA guidelines stating that if the patient has a 'Clinical' need T3 shouldn't be withdrawn it is being withdrawn. Can you see your local MP.
I think the pure powder is sold by manufacturers to pharmaceutical companies for turning into pills. It is sold by the kilogram. I think, realistically, it would be impossible to buy a kilogram of the stuff and weigh out a precise dosage of, say, 30mcg per day in three doses of 10mcg. There are 1,000,000,000 micrograms in a kilogram.
Yes I thought so. I was going to buy some scales to weigh out my daily dose . You can order 1kg .
I'm intrigued. I wonder what would happen. I think customs might assume you wanted to supply a prescription-only drug for profit. But I suppose you might get lucky and it will get through customs without being stopped.
I have to admit, though - I wouldn't attempt to do something like this in a million years!
I agree, humanbean.
10 micrograms is a tiny amount. Scales that can weigh that sort of amount with accuracy are not found in kitchens. Scales capable of measuring to one milligram are usually regarded as highly sensitive. You would need a thousand times greater accuracy.
Further, in pharmaceutical facilities they take great care to ensure staff wear personal protective equipment. You can't afford the risks of draughts, sneezes, spillages, etc., when dealing with such potent materials.
Thought illustration - not possible to do in reality! Take a sugar cube. Draw nine lines one each surface. Cut one of those cubes off the lump. Now, with the tiny lump, do the same again. That would get you near 30 micrograms.
Also - how are you going to handle disposal of waste and surplus? Not safe to put in bins or down drains.
You can buy microgram scales (don't be caught out by jewellers milligram or carat scales - they aren't accurate enough), but you'd need to look for scientific lab scales - cost is at least a grand, I think. Or build your own - hmmm - NOT recommended sci-toys.com/scitoys/scitoy...
Remember 5mcg is 0.000005g - the lowest most scales (even lab scales) go is 100mcg 0.0001g
Reiki master can you go on holiday to somewhere to buy the pills? Might be easier than powder?
Yes that's true . I wish I could .
I have seen HUMAN NDT for sale on the internet but it can only be purchased for scientific research or suchlike. I have no desire to mess around with these products and would very much recommend that nobody else does either. Sensitive calculations, measuring and mixing are not the sorts of things that those with badly-treated hypothyroidism should be doing.
reikimaster, you say you're on a high dose. If you mean something like 100mcg/day it seems like a good plan if you are confident that you can measure out such amounts. You could perhaps put it in capsules once you've worked out how to measure the correct amount. My daughter has been in a similar position as you for 15 years. Her GP has always refused to give her T3 and we have had to buy it online all that time and it's a constant worry that the supply line might be shut down at some point. Cue, a trip to Mexico or Greece! Which country does the powder come from?
