Serum TSH level 3.22 mu/L range 0.20-4.50 mu/L

Serum folate 3.1 ug/L under 3.5 suggestive of folate deficiency.

Not taking any meds

Any thoughts please

Hidden I see from a previous post that you have Hashimoto's and low levels of Vit D and B12, along with your current low levels of Folate.

Did you take the advice given in reply to that post? Did you adopt a gluten free diet and start supplementing with selenium to help reduce antibodies? Did you start supplementing with Vit D, B12 and B Complex?

With Hashimoto's, Dr Toft, past president of the British Thyroid Association and leading endocrinologist, has suggested that when antibodies are present then beginning treatment with Levo can 'nip things in the bud'. If you email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk she can let you have a copy of the article and you can show it to your GP. Whether he will do anything is another matter but if not you could ask for a referral to an endo.

Dando,

NHS usually waits until TSH is >4.50 or FT4 is <9.0 before diagnosing hypothyroidism. Your FT4 is bottom of range but TSH remains within range but as you have Hashimoto's which will progresssively destroy your thyroid gland it would be pragmatic for your GP to prescribe Levothyroxine now rather than wait for thyroid levels and symptoms to worsen. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your GP.

There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

Folate is deficient. My GP prescribed 5mg folic acid when I had folate deficiency. Alternatively you can buy 400-800mcg folic acid or methylfolate without prescription.
