As understand it, there is some hormone content in Thyrogold, but in order to keep it as a non-prescription product, the hormone content is not declared. I've heard you need to take a lot more Thyrogold than the prescription desiccated thyroid products, so that suggests it's hormone content is weaker. At the bottom of the page there's a disclaimer:
Thyro-Gold™ does not require a prescription because we maintain its valued designation as a dietary supplement. To prevent our product from being classified as a drug under Section 201(g) of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, we are required to inform you that there is no intention, implied or otherwise that represents or infers that this product be used in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of any disease.
THYROGOLD, called a “dietary supplement” to meet FDA rules, though patients report it working very well. Was created by the now-deceased John C. Lowe, and his wife currently sells it. Comes in 150 mg and 300 mg tablets. The mgs is NOT equivalent to the same mgs in prescription NDT tablets. i.e. 150 mg may be “similar in effect” to 1 1/4 grains, but that’s a subjective opinion by some. The thyroid powder in the tablets are from New Zealand pasture-fed cows, plus there is 25 mg of Coleus forskohlii, which is said to promote thyroid function. It is a popular OTC product!

I should have also stated that Thyro Gold was developed by Dr John Lowe who was also an Adviser to Thyroiduk.org.uk before his untimely death. It was made so that it didn't need a prescription and people could source it easily.
