Hi. I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid 3 months ago. I am on 100g of levothyroxine. I seem to have phlegm in my throat constantly for the last 2/3 weeks. Is this normal on this medication? Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

Phlegm
Bystander,
Have you changed the make of Levothyroxine you take?
Can't remember what make they have me for the first 28 days but they've given me Almus for the last 2 months. Is this a common problem?
Bystander,
It's not uncommon to have an adverse reaction to a change of make but if you've been taking Almus for 2 months and have only had phlegm for 2 weeks there is unlikely to be a connection.
I have had various brands but have constant phlegm.
Not that I know of .Fill alot of hankies.Early on it did stop for the first summerafter diagnosed ,returned in the winter and stayed.
I don't know how medication impacts on this, but sounds like you might have something called Post Nasal Drip, which can be treated with nasal sprays like Beconase, available both on prescription and over the counter. I have suffered from this for many years, and although I haven't been diagnosed hypo (yet, but convinced I am!), PND is on Thyroid UK's checklist of symptoms.
Hope this helps - I know how unpleasant and potentially social embarrassing this is!

Hi I had the same problem suffered with post nasal drip, blocked sinuses and phlegm for years when someone on here mention Swanson NAC. If you search you can see the posts. I gave it a try and it has been miraculous at clearing up my symptoms. Wonderful to breath again and not have to constantly clear my throat or chest.
I also have this and on my yoga website describe a practice that clears the sinuses, helps indigestion etc that I use to relieve the phlegm because if I don't as winter comes in I develop rotten indigestion and a very painful throat/chest area that sometimes last for months. Not sure if it's okay to put the website on here but I'll PM you with it - there's no charge it's there for everyone to see and use.
Thank you. Yes please send me the details. I willing to try
