Chance15 Going by those results alone, they would seem to indicate over medication.
However, looking back at your last post the results were
Tsh 23 (0.27-4.2)
T4 12.7 (12.3-20.2)
and indicated a need for a dose increase which her GP did and put it up from 100 to 125mcg Levo. A 25mcg increase shouldn't have made such a difference in the levels since 7th October.
A question -
Were the tests done at the same time of day and under the same circumstances? Always recommended is earliest appointment of the day, fast overnight (water only) and leave off Levo for 24 hours.
As your GP hasn't done the full range of thyroid tests I would get your mum to do a Blue Horizon home blood test, either fingerprick or blood draw. And while she's at it then get the test that includes all the important vitamins and minerals. As there is such a swing in the levels it would be an idea to rule out (or in) autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's. I suggest the Thyroid Plus Eleven bluehorizonmedicals.co.uk/T...
Many thanks once again for quick response.me Mom had test early at 8.25am she fasted and took no tablets or water (I didn't have drink just been fair lol).
The doctor said she was over medicated and to have 100 then 125 then 100 then 125 and to book an other blood test in 6 weeks..
When I asked doctor about b12,vitamin d,folate etc fox told me it wasn't put down to do Yeah yeah yeah.when I mentioned vitamin d she told me they wouldn't do that when I explained to doc people with thyroid probs always tend to be low in vitamins she told me no.I them told her to go on to the thyroid uk site and to do her homework.she wasn't impressed,I told her you doctors are making us ill due to not understanding the thyroid lol.i we wont be seeing her no more.It gets me and all of us suffering due to uneducated doctors not doing there jobs right.
Sorry about the moan but they shouldn't be in a job they know nowt about.
Were both the tests done early, fasted and no Levo? This latest one and the one in October? If the October one was done in the afternoon and after eating then the TSH will be higher, but not to the extent seen, and the FT4 wouldn't be that different either.
To be honest, I'd just get the BH Plus Eleven test done and if any deficiencies, antibodies, etc then present the results to tje GP. She probably won't like it but then you can tell her to get them done through the surgery if she doesn't like your tests but they do prove a point.
Seasidesusie what do we ask for on thyroid plus 11 site i.e. Select entry microtainer or vacutainer not sure which one or best one to have.Any suggestions susie😀
Thanks for your quick reply helvella. If I take the vacutainer will the nurse do it at my doctors surgery or will I have to fone them and explain what I want doing and for me to send it of to thyroid uk.
If you think you and your mum can manage the fingerprick test then order the microtainer. Go to the bottom of this page, click on the link under the table of tests for a pdf guide to doing the fingerprick test bluehorizonmedicals.co.uk/P...
If you're unsure then BH provide a home nurse service to do a blood draw for £45 (that may be each, you'd need to check) or you could see if your surgery would do it (possibly doubtful but worth asking) or your local hospital and then you'd order the vacutainer. You might be able to take advantage of this offer but check first with BH homebloodtests.co.uk
Just checked out site we will have the nurse come to us it's free if there's 2been done.Thats what I call a Bargain susie thanku so much you are so blessed.
Hi. The TSH result indicates over-dosing on Levothyroxine. Do not let this continue. I became extremely ill with this and one of my eyes is damaged as a result. As the over-dosing went on for a long time I also have osteopinea and I am not through menopause yet - so its caused by the over-dosing. This is serious and the lab test results will have been coming back with warnings. Your mum should assert herself if she feels well enough and say she wants the dose lowered and then new blood tests six weeks later. It is her right. If she leaves this she could be left with multiple health issues. If her GP ignores her them please return with her and insist that she is referred to the endocrinologist on the basis of any symptoms - such as anxiety and eye pain or migraines - and rightly claim that it is difficult to stabilise her dose.
What wont have helped is no fluids. You must stay dydrated with water as without would concentrate the sample and alter the readings. I was once told by the receptionist that starve and nothing to drink. When I told nurse this she was furious and made me drink before she would touch me!
