Will doctor call me to increase dose or do I need an appointment?

I'm on 25mcg thyroxine.

Just got my testresults back and the nurse said : all normal no action. But I knew better and asked for the numbers and I obviously need and dose increase. Will My doctor normally call me and increase the dose of all I need to make an appointment?

Lisan1,

If your nurse has said results are normal and no action required you will need to make an appointment to discuss the results and an increase with your GP.

Oh, why is it so hard for them to treat you according to the NICE guidelines? I will book an appointment.

Thank you for your kind reply!

Lisan1,

What guidelines? I wasn't aware there were guidelines to dosing.

You'll find them here:

cks.nice.org.uk/hypothyroid...

Aim (in most people) to reach a stable TSH level in the lower half of the reference range (0.4–2.5 mU/L).

Whoa! Thanks for that. I'll print this out and give to my GP. Wonder what is arguments are for leaving me on 37.5mcg.

This NICE quote is from the section on 'subclinical hypothyroidism', but it doesn't seem to say the same in 'overt' - and I'm not really sure what the difference is. Is 'overt' when you have obvious symptoms?

Subclinical is when ft4 and ft3 is within range and tsh is elevated.
