GP aren't reducing thyroxine?

Hi, I've never used this site so apologies if this is in the wrong place.

In June my daughter was stillborn full term, the next day they told me that some blood they had taken showed I was hypothyroid. They put me on 100mcg of thyroxine and told me to get retested in three months.

We wanted to start ttc as soon as possible so at the end of august I got another test which showed my tsh was 0.11 but my t3 and t4 levels were in range but at the lower end still. They said they wanted to keep me on 100mcg for another three months as I may just be balancing out. i thought this was mad but I carried on

I got my results today and my tsh is now 0.62 and they are still keeping me on 100mcg because my t3 and 4 are at good levels. When I told her I can't get pregnant she said she'd never heard that and that they'll ring again tomorrow. Obviously I'm very anxious to conceive but it's not working, I don't think I'm ovulating and the doctor's aren't listening to me. I can't see why they are keeping me at that level when it's too low. I'm scared I'll never have a baby again because they just won't help me. Is it normal for them not to do anything and keep me on the same dose

Welcome to the forum, Catkit.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your baby.

Hypothyroidism can cause temporary infertility but it almost always resolves once patients are optimally medicated.

You've said FT4 and FT3 are within normal range and TSH 0.62 is also within normal range so there is no reason to reduce your dose from 100mcg.

NICE recommend the TSH of women planning conception should be in the low-normal range 0.4-2.0 with FT4 in the upper range. When pregnancy is confirmed dose is usually increased by 25-50mcg to ensure good foetal development.

Thank you, no one's really explained anything to me and I have no idea what's right and wrong. I just thought if it's not between 1 and 2.5 you can't conceive.

I keep seeing lots of conflicting information and I just don't know where to start. I'm getting very panicked about it all

Catkit,

Your TSH level 0.62 is good for conception.
