Swapping NDT

Hi, I have been taking Thiroyd now for 2 months (currently taking 2 doses of 1.5 grains daily). I have now purchased Thyroid S instead - any advice on swapping? Do I need to reduce the dose again? Thanks

Thiroyd has 35 mcg T4 and 8.31mcg of T3 per grain/tablet, while Thyroid-S has 38mcg of T4 and 9mcg of T3, which is 8.57% more.

So, you need 100 - 8.57 = 91.43% of Thyroid-S to match Thiroyd.

Your total dose of three grains Thiroyd is equivalent to 3 x 0.9143 = 2 and 3/4 grains of Thyroid-S (near as makes no difference).

Any particular reason for making the change?

Thiroyd contains 35mcg of T4 and 8.31mcg of T3. Thyroid S contains 38mcg of T4 and 9mcg of T3. I have just recently changed to Thyroid S from Thiroyd and just swapped straight over, 2 grains daily. No adverse affects for me but of course everyone is different. If you are worried perhaps you could try taking 2 grains for a few days and then add in an extra one if you have no ill effects.

Thyroid S has a long list of fillers including aluminium. Thiroyd has fewer fillers.

You can do a straight swop-over from one NDT to another. Just take note of too fast pulse etc. and reduce down slightly for the next dose.
