I'm going in the direction of wanting to take NDT.

Any opinions? One better than the other? Is weight a factor in prescribing dosages as I am a thin person and pretty sure that I am in a minority in the world of hypos.

The best NDT is the one that suits you best. And you might have to try several before you find the right one.

NDT is hormones. With hormone replacement, you start low and work up slowly until your symptoms have gone. How much you weigh is not a factor. You need what you need, and you keep increasing until you get there. :)

Thanks. I hope it is not too much of a bumpy ride!

That's o.k. if you want to change to NDT which was the very original thyroid hormone replacement for hypothyroidism and first used in 1892 (in a different form of course).

Say, if you are on 100mcg of lev you just do a straight switch-over to 1grain of NDT.

Before you begin I'd take my pulse/temp several times a day so I can compare it if I feel changes when on NDT. If pulse goes too fast or your temp rises too much, drop the dose down slightly.

You can increase every 2 weeks taking the same precautions above until you feel well with no clinical symptoms and you stay at that dose. If clinical symptoms arise just add a little amount of NDT to your dose until you feel well again.

(I am not medically qualified I have hypothyroidism).

Thanks I'm assuming I would continue my 6wk checkups with the GP ?

If you are on a stable dose at present you shouldn't be on 6 weekly blood tests. I am on a yearly blood test as I am stable but I don't feel the necessity of a yearly one at present.

In using NDT, the blood tests which were introduced for levo alone, wont correlate except maybe the TSH. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Levo is T4 only. NDT as you know contains a variety. If T3 is in the mix your T4 will be lower etc.

Armour is the most expensive, it depends on whether your doctor will prescribe or you buy your own!
