Does anyone have info on how insomnia could be related to adrenal fatigue?

daisyhegarty Poor sleep is a form of stress, stress affects the adrenals.

I have very poor sleep, amongst other things. I am working with a hormone specialist, I did the Genova 24 hour adrenal stress test, the results were interpreted as 'low adrenal reserve' with poor sleep being highlighted by my practioner as a form of stress contributing to this.

Here is one article that highlights the connection between insomnia and adrenal fatigue drlam.com/blog/chronic-tire... , you will find lots more if you put 'insomnia adrenal fatigue' into Google.

If your adrenals are struggling to make cortisol, as they get worse and worse, they struggle longer and longer to make the amount of cortisol you need to get you up in the morning, and don't manage it until late in the day. And it's high cortisol at bedtime that stops you sleeping. So, the usual pattern for adrenal fatigue is low cortisol in the morning, and high in the evening. Hope that helps. :)

daisyhegarty You will need a 24 hour saliva adrenal stress test which is carried out by Genova Diagnositics - see here thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin... - the pdf will take you to the list of tests, you need END01 Adrenal Stress Profile (ASI): Cortisol/DHEA. Scroll down TUK's testing page to find out how to order and how to obtain your results (you can only do it through a 'practioner' as Genova don't deal with the public, and TUK will be your practioner.

Once you order the 24 hour saliva adrenal stress test, where do you go to have it done?

You do it at home. It's 4 x saliva samples throughout the day.

Besides the Genova one I linked to above, there is now another company that ThyroidUK work with and they send results direct to you rather than ThyroidUK so it's a bit less hassle. If you use them, please mention ThyroidUK as they then get a small donation.
