snoring: hello can anyone help with snoring I've... - Thyroid UK
snoring
I had both which mostly ceased once on 125mcg of T4 . Not sure what you mean by app. Have a look at s4s dental in Sheffield for their appliances. Take getting used to but work. But I was able to stop using when on enough Levo.
I don't want to alarm you, but I didn't think it was sleep apnoea either but it was. Now it is less than 1% so I am told. I have to have a cpap machine. I am on a high dose 250mg thyroxine and 20mg liothyronine (Endo trying to get me off this drug). Just done a sleep study to see how things are going. Do you ever suddenly wake up in the middle of the night, or feel lousy in the morning? I would have a chat with your GP, just for peace of mind.
hiya, what does the sleep study involve? why does he want to get you of the meds?
I haven't awoken refreshed for about a year I presumed it was my hashes
I did speak to a different doc about my snoring as its quite embarrassing and sounds like an angry bear and wakes my daughter but she sed if I'm not falling asleep in the day not to worry.
do you feel beter with the machine?
Yes I do vivienneferreira, I only found out because I was rushed into hospital with pneumonia 18 months ago (unrelated at the time to my thyroid problem). I do feel that I have had a good night sleep when I use it. I have oxygen with it, but a lot of people do not need oxygen (my lungs are still recovering from the pneumonia) . Basically, the sleep study, you have to wear a little monitor on your wrist and a peg on your middle finger. It will record all your heart rate etc and sleep movements - you wear if for two consecutive nights. Doesn't hurt. I would ask your GP to be referred to the sleep clinic. Sleep apnoea is not necessarily related to thyroid problems. Even fit people such as rugby players get it. They used to say, it was down to the size of your neck, but this is not considered accurate anymore. All shapes and sizes can have it, a lot of people do not know they have it. The readings will monitor your REM sleep which is when you start dreaming. If you are given a cpap machine, it may only be temporary. It will record from the time you turn it on, to the time you turn it off, from the first day to the day of your appointment. It will tell you how much sleep you have had each night literally and if any disturbances in your breathing. If you are concerned, just ask your GP. Hope this helps and let us know how you get on.
Did you have any trouble with your driving licence if you drive? thanks for the info
